Help English Language Learners from around the world
Volunteer for the Colorado Refugee English as a Second Language Program (ESL) at Emily Griffith Technical College. Meet refugee students from troubled areas globally including many African and Asian countries. Volunteers assist in the classroom, work one-on-one with students, or tutor small groups outside the classroom. Conversation group volunteers meet with advanced refugee students in a casual setting to chat and share ideas. Volunteers contribute valuable time and expertise for the ESL program and our students.
The Colorado Refugee ESL program provides English language instruction to newly arrived refugees. A majority of the 1,000 refugees who come to Colorado each year spend some time studying English at Emily Griffith. Home instruction For those who are unable to attend classes onsite, home instruction is available. In-home students study English, American culture and life skills with a volunteer tutor. Most refugees who receive in-home instruction are women who have small children and would otherwise remain isolated in their new country.
